Throughout the design process there was a strong theme of figures and their relation to the ground. As a precedent, river deltas were studied and a nested sculpture was created to drive the project formally. The nested form was the original aesthetic but when paired with the carving process of rivers was altered.

The site is positioned on a sculpture park, with a highly deliberate landscape. The slope of the site is intense which is reflected in the architecture. Forms are seemingly carved from the landscape to produce five connecting buildings housing gallery spaces, artist residencies and other programs. The relationship with the ground is blurred through the carving gesture.
