TROY 9th STREET TOWNHOUSE

The site of the townhouse is on the corner of 9th and Federal Street on a plot of land currently owned by RPI. The site originally was a part of Troy’s housing zone, with four buildings along 9th Street. The houses are now demolished to provide RPI with a more open procession into the campus.

This proposal seeks to take back the street from RPI and provide a new typology for Troy’s typical townhouse.

The basic geometry of the house is a sheared rectangular prism; 30’x60’ which copies the dimensions of the typical Troy house. Programmatically the space is linearly arranged with public areas on lower floors and private areas on upper floors. The form is derived from a boolean process using only octohedrons in a negative, carving fashion.
